Can someone tell me how math is used in communication and information technology?
Like, how is math used to run computer programmes, or, store information on computers, pen drives, MP3 players, iPods, the Internet etc. How is maths used in communication technolgy like launching satellites, mobile network services, GPS, etc.

- Apparently you lack the knowledge and ability to carry out any of the operations you have listed. It's probably best for you to stick to you video games.
- All the engineering used to create all the projects you have listed invlolved some type of math. Binary sets of 1's and 0's are your digital storage media, hexidecmial and binary are used in satilite communication. Pluse there is alot of math involved in the uplink of the satilite do to a satilite rotating and postioning around the earth. There is allot more math that I am not mentioning but these are just a few.

- Almost all computers nowadays are binary based. There were trinary computers experimented with years ago. Binary code (10010110 00011010 etc...) is used by the computer directly to represent all higher functions such as drivers used for keyboard, or graphics processing. All computer program such as C++, VB, Java all break down to the same assembler language code (for Intel or Mac, or Risc etc machines they are different), which at the oper. system level is processed into there lowest form which is a 1 or a 0. Each 1 or 0 simply is an instruction to swith on or off a transistorised flip-flop circuit (in the cpu), which collectively performs very basic functions only, such as multiplication, addition, and others like that. BUT these simple instructions always form the basis of everything you see and do at a high level on a computer. So with Binary Mathmatics we can manipulate the state of the physical switches (bits) which come in sets of 8 or ten generally. If a byte (8 actual electronic switches in the cpu) contains 11110000 we can use binary maths to change this to 11100000 or 00010001 or anything else using XOR, OR, AND etc.. to change the values on the fly. Man I'm lost at this stage. All digital Electronics uses this type logical maths. Including GPS's Mobile Phones, Car computers, Digital watches etc... I've done my best of the top of my head, but could be wrong here or there. So please check if important. Note: I have a Computer Science degree so I do know the basics quite well. - Yes aside from the use of binary umbers 1 & 0, You must know that any body in the in the study of electronics need a full working knowledge of mathematics, the very knowledge of microwaves that abounds the atmosphere, the ionic sphere angle, radians, directions by use of trigonometry, physics cannot be workable without in depth knowledge of mathematics... ...geometry is needed very badly to configure shapes and computation of areas, volume, and weights corresponding to shapes and thickness.... ...satellites and antennae and frequencies are more of microwaves that eyes nor feelings cannot comprehend but only the knowledge of working mathematic processes and operations shall know the extend of its waves can reach by the speed of sounds and electrical impulses... ....such cannot be comprehended by mere arithmetic...the minor branch of mathematics..... ...lights and sounds is measured by complex knowledge of mathematics...you determined the resistance, the amperes, the magnetic attractions and repellant is comprehensible by knowledge of mathematics... ...Theorems, formulas derived can be simplified by understanding and working process of equation which is math, the strength of materials to build towers to place your antennae is determined by calculus, a branch of mathematics, ...the numbers of listeners and consumers of various products of IT etc, is calculated by knowledge of statistics used in surveying data, is math working steps, graphs and value data is appreciated by mathematical analysis.....This field is highly mathematical processes...without mathematics...no telephone, no radio, no TV, no computer, no MP3, no satellites, no antennae, no radar, no man can reach the moon.....no airplane can fly inter-continents.
