What causes speech delay? What kind of programs are available for kids with this problem?

My three year old son has speech delay. He went to see a speech therapist last week, where his speech, and hearing was tested. I am very concerned about this. She gave me a few booklets, and work sheets . But I would like to seek professional help, guidance with this situation. Any advice? Thanks.
