How do I unlock my home internet to access my laptop internet?

I just got a laptop (pocket book) and I need internet on it. I want to unlock my home Internet so I can have internet on my laptop. Can I do that and if so, how? Or, do i need a router?

1. To use more than one machine on the connection you need a router. All machines connect through it. If your machine is wireless get a wireless router.
