- well the cables into your house and around the house. are all co-ax the backbone of the internet in the uk runs on fiber-optics, the reason they use coax is its easily to bend, fibre optic isn't so goes like this your modem to box outside of house --> distribution box on street called a UBR (via coax) --> region distribution box --> (coax and optical) national area (liverpool) (nearly all optical) --> world because you already have the box installed, you'll be more than liekly sent the tv box and modem box via the post, or you can request a manned install. but this is normally chargeable.
- Assuming it was from a previous tenant, just phone 0845 454 1111 and Virgin will take all your details for a package that suits you and for a connection. You may get a cheaper [note I said may] connection charge because all the cabling has been connected to the house already so they don't have to make a run from the nearest cabinet. If you decide all the engineers will have to do is bring the equipment and get the system activated at Virgins end. Cable unlike ADSL is not self install.
