Communication Needs

Can communication between a human and a cat be called intercultural communication?

We experience the same feelings, only we have different way of expressing them. We live in the same world, only our worldview is different. We have this language barrier and count mostly on non-verbal communication. I'm not joking about this and I hope for serious answers.

  1. yes because they are a completely different beings to humans. they have their own kind of language that we can't understand fully, though they can understands ours if repeated to them. they have their own habits that are used with their needs.
  2. there is a misconception on your part. You think your cat is a funny looking human. Your cat see you as a way to the means. A CAT IS A CAT! Sorry, you've watched "men in black" one too many times.
  3. It is called interspecies communication and I wholeheartedly believe in it. Animals do have the same feelings of pain, loss, sadness, joy and exhuberance that we humans do, they just express it in a different way. Keep communuicating with your cat, you'll be surprised at what you learn.
  4. Yes, it can, your cat knows your moods, she answers when you talk to her and you understand her tones and body language. So this is true communication based on love. There are humans that do far worse then you and your cat.
  5. my cat is very chatty and iwe communicate alll the time its not starnge and only cat owners truely can appreciate how bright these fluffy animals are i know all her moods as her face shape changes as do her eyes
  6. Yes communicain between a human and a cat is possbile, as for it being intercultural no. If anything it would be interspecies. I have always had a feeling that any animal can experience feelings, show effections, and use body language . Have you ever seen a mother cat react to a dog gettting close to her kittens.? My daughter cat TUM TUMs has shown her love by leaving dead animals on my daughter pillow many of times. My daughter feeds her. (TUMS ) My mother has a cat with the habit of leaving the room and hidding if a stranger is present, same cat bites me everytme I come over. one of our cats know that one of my friends hated cats, everytime the friend came over , the cat would jump on her as soon as the freind was in the door. ne time my freind left her car door open and the cat left a surprise on her sit.
  7. YES!! I talk to my cats all the time and they seem to know what I am talking about and they listen(sometimes better then us humans)lol. I also listen to them and I am learning how to understand their meows and why they do them at certain times and not at other times.
  8. No. The word you want is "inter-speciel," communication between species.
  9. My cat and I have excellent communication. He lets me know what he wants and I give it. I let him know when he is trying to push me too far by telling him No. I think cats that stay in the home all the time know more about our habits than we do. After all we are their world.
  10. Inter-special perhaps, but I believe for it to be inter-cultural it would have to be between two people from different cultures because "culture" is an aspect of humanity.
  11. I think so. i communicate with my cats somewhat all the time. there's this kind of connection between you and the cat, especially when you've had the cat for a long time. you understand each other in a way, and you learn the cat's body language.
