How can I start off a "descriptive speech"?

I am delivering a descriptive speech about a person, place, or thing and I chose my baby daughter. How can I start?? I am supposed to describe her physically and her personality. Can someone give me an example of a descriptive speech...?

  1. First, do not begin speaking until the audience has ceased clapping and is seated, in rapt attention. Then begin by saying, "I am the mother of a worthless but beautiful child..." Then, explain to them the costs of raising a daughter in America today. Based upon the number remaining in the audience after 3 hours, you may judge your own elocution and style skills.
  2. idk
  3. Begin... I am the mother of a fantastic ___ year old little girl whose name is______. I enjoy the precious times I get to spend with her. However, it has not always been easy to care for her by myself. (sorry, I'm assuming that you must still be in high school if you need to write a speech and you must be a single mom...correct me if I'm wrong) I have had to learn the hard way how challenging it is to care for another life. I will go on to describe the challenges a young woman must face in order to care for a child alone. Then go on to descibe what you have went through bringing her into the world, any assistance the state gives you, and so on and so forth. Talk about how difficult it is to go to school and be a mom at the same time is. You don't have to be descibing a physical thing for it to be a descriptive speech. It can be an idea or basically anything that can be decribed. You can describe a dream, a hope, a fantasy, a job, anything you can think of. In your conclusion, end on a positive note, or you will leave everyone thinking that your child is one big burden to you. That's just word association, they'll forget what you said in your introduction and remember more of the body of the speech. The conclusion will be the last thing you leave the audience with, so end it how you want people to remember it. If my assumptions are wrong about you, I apologize. I don't mean to offend. But if you need more help because I got your story wrong, you can email me or im me with more info. I won a couple awards for speeches in high school, so in a geeky way, this is kinda fun for me!
  4. Descriptive, means expressive, vivid, colorful and graphic. The best way to begin any speech is begin with something that you know well. So you already have that part down. Now describe her, if I were going to begin a speech about my dog I would begin…. Romeo is a mutt, my playful cocker spaniel and german Shepard mixed breed was born February 14th. His coat is short more like a cocker spaniel, and his coat looks like a freshly paved city street glistening under the mid day sun..... Based on that description I hope you can tell he has a black coat.
  5. to describe you start at a focal point and go from their... are you telling how she changes your life, or the way she looks? do you want to start with today and woirk back to when you found out you were pregnant or do you want to start at pregnancy and go forward? do you want to describe her top to bottom, bottom to top, or your favorite feateure to yourleast favorite... Theere is no "howto" write a desc essay... the only thing to remember is to 1) HAVE a pattern 2) use GREAT VOCABULARY 3) dont TELL me... SHOW me....
