How can I stop the internet while connected to a virtual machine?

I have a virtual machine I'm testing on. I have a file I'd rather not open while connected to the internet. The problem is, when I unplug the internet, it disconnects from the virtual machine. Is there any possible way I can kill the internet only on the virtual machine and still stay connected?

  1. Try using a software firewall. If the VM is running Windows, try Zone Alarm on the VM. If it is a Linux Machine, try the built in firewall and configure the IP Tables
  2. I'm just taking a shot in the dark here The VM has an IP address, perhaps you can release the IP address and see what happens then. Not sure if it would work or not, but worth a try
  3. I am not sure i understand your question well. But if ur using VMware as virtual machine or any other software you can disable the virutal network card that is if you want no access at all to the net on ur VM. You can also use settings to stop the network card fro sharing the computers network connections using NAT
