what are fibre optics?

Public Comments

  1. A glass or plastic fiber designed to guide light along its length by confining as much light as possible in a propagating form. Optical fibers are widely used in fiber-optic communication, which permits digital data transmission over longer distances and at higher data rates than other forms of wired and wireless communications. They are also used to form sensors, and in a variety of other applications.
  2. A method of transmitting a large ammount of data over a glass fiber using a transmittion LED on one end and a receiving photo diode on the other.
  3. Fiber optics are optics. Optic system using bundled glass fiber for laser based communications systems. The fib re is made by heating glass and letting it stretch from a high distance. Usually the fiber is as thin as a human hair. Each cable can carry thousands of digital signals a long distance since the laser light used is guided by the glass fiber. Copper wire does not have the capabilities to carry that many signals due to the resistance of the metal, and the degradation of the signal over distance.
