Speech Therapy? How can I teach my 11 yr. old daughter speech therapy and i really don't want to go to a therapist. She has trouble get words out, and she really tries so can anybody give me links, or ways to teach her Thank-You!!!!!!!!
Speech therapy?!?!?!?!?!?!? I'm planning on taking speech therapy. I cannot say my 'R's' correctly. It sounds more like a 'W'. I have a few questions... - How long does it take, on average, for someone with my speech impediment, to correct their speech? I know it depends how severe your impediment is, but I just want to know how long on average, or from your personal experience. I'm thinking about having three, one hour lessons a week. - Do most people, with this problem, take speech everyday, or once a week? - How much do most lessons cost, and is it likely that my insurance will pay for it? - Does it annoy you when someone has a speech impediment such as mine? Be honest!!! Thanks so much! :)
How does speech therapy teach a child to speak? I have a 31 month-old son that still doesn't speak. We are living in Italy and I speak in English and my husband in Italian and sometimes the local dialect. He seems to understand us both and uses his hands and certain sounds to communicate with us but no words. How will speech therapy help him? What exactly is involved? I ask because I think we might need to bring him to a speech therapist eventually. Thanks.
What age should you start speech therapy? My son is almost 22 months. He has a lisp and doesn't pronounce words very clearly but he really tries. What age does that become a problem? Is this a normal phase or do you think he will need speech therapy?
How long should my child be in speech therapy? She has a problem with the /r/ sound and has been in speech therapy for a year now. The speech therapist claims that she can say the sounds correctly when reading but I have only noticed minimal improvement. She can when she reads but it sounds unnatural and overemphasized.
2 year old going to start speech therapy? My son is 2 1/2 years old. He is starting speech therapy next week for a relatively minor speech delay. He hasn't been diagnosed with autism or anything like that. He is just a very slow speaker. What I'm wondering is, what can I expect to happen at his therapy sessions? What kind of reinforcement will I be doing at home to make sure what he learns in therapy sticks? And can anyone share their speech therapy success stories? I'd love to hear them. Thanks in advance.
How many years of college for Speech therapy? I was wondering if anyone knew of any info on speech therapy in illinois. I am closer to chicago. how to start an outpatient speech therapy clinic? I am partnering with a speech therapist and I hold a MBA we are going into partnership together to open a outpatient Speech Therapy Clinic. My question is do we have to be licensed? If so what are the requirements? In the State of Texas.
What kind of part-time jobs can I get as a speech therapy student? I am in a full-time pre-certification program for speech therapy. I had to quit my full time job to go to school. I want to work instead of taking out loans to cover my living expenses. Is there a job that would be good for extra money and experience that a speech therapy student could do?
Book suggestions for speech therapy with children with complex difficulties? I have just qualified as a speech therapist but am working as a support worker with children and young adults with very complex difficulties. Most of the service users cannot produce any speech and have very poor oral motor control. I am looking for a speech therapy book on working with children like this. Any suggestions?
I am considering a career in speech therapy, any help please? Im finally back in school and because of personal reasons, i am very interested in speech therapy, not pathology. Does anyone know of any site that offers info about this career? I am looking for: what kind of degree pay and different settings in which a speech therapist can work in i am in the chicago area if that is important, thank you so much for your help!
How to help my step son who needs speech therapy to think for himself? I know he needs to learn and I am getting him speech therapy, but we have a Vsmile for extra help and fun in learning. He still asks for our help to do the simplest stuff. When we have told him how 100+ times to make it do what he wants it to do. I know repeating over and over is good, but its like it never sticks. Hes almost 5 and can't read much and can't speak well. We have tried teaching him, but nothing works. The speech therapist just says to do it over and over again. Which we have and its like Nothing stays.
Is there a website where I can give myself speech therapy and voice lessons? I was on a ventilator for two months and my voice is very low and I get out of breath if I talk a long time or try to sing. I had some speech therapy when I was in the hospital but I still need more. I want to do it by myself. After I built my voice back up I would like to try to give myself voice lessons. Does anyone know of a website where I can find some things that need to do to work on getting there?
How do I get rid of a lisp without speech therapy? Sometimes when I say a word with the letter S in it, it comes out as "th" and I lisp. I've had the lisp four a couple years now, and I want to know how to get rid of it. Do you know how to get rid of a lisp without speech therapy????

If my toddler gets speech therapy through the school district, will she be labeled special needs? My daughter is 2 1/2, and is having some trouble with the clarity of her words. Her vocabulary and understanding is extensive, but she forms many words wrong and is very hard to understand sometimes. My aunt, who has been a special ed teacher for years, suggested we get a speech evaluation to see if she needs speech therapy. So we set up an appointment through the school district's early learning department. But now I am worried that if she gets speech therapy, she will be labeled as special needs. I have heard horror stories about children being "labeled", and I do not want this for her as she is a very sharp kid, and I know that she will be fine. Anyone know if she will be labeled special needs if she gets speech therapy? Thank you for your responses! Her hearing is perfectly fine, so that is not an issue. She understands well and forms 5-10 word sentences, but when she starts to talk really fast she loses intelligibility. She tends to omit the ends of words and even mixes up vowel sounds sometimes. I definitely want help if she needs it, but I don't want it to be more trouble than it is worth.
What do you think would be a reason a 6 year old would need speech therapy? My daughter speaks pretty good for a 6 year old, but because she says things like "at morning we eat breakfast" instead of in the morning we eat breakfast and things like "I'm getting a barbie at shopping." Instead of I'm going to shopping to get a barbie. They think she needs speech therapy twice a week. I correct her when she says things like that and she remembers it the next time she wants to say something similar, but they still think she needs speech therapy. What do you think? It's not my ego that doesn't want her taking this, I just think it's a waste of her time. She's on medicaid so the school gets good money for doing this. If she wasn't on medicaid the school would have to do it for free. Would they continue to do this if she wasn't on medicaid? Somehow I don't think so.
How much does speech therapy cost? I have a problem with saying "S" due to an over bite from a genetic bone disease and braces. I also used to have a problem with other letters and sounds, including "th" but it was corrected in speech therapy. The "S" still hasn't been corrected. I really would like to have the problem corrected because I feel absolutely stupid when I talk and I don't like talking to people because of it.
Anybody here have a kid in high school who receives Speech Therapy in school? I have a 16 year old who gets 25 minutes a week in Speech Therapy in school. There are 7 kids in his group this year. I'm not sure if he still needs to be there? His IEP have goals that have more to do with working on social skills like making eye contact when speaking to adults, understanding figurative language etc. Any teenagers out there receiving Speech Therapy? Did you think it helps? Does any parents of teens see differences at this age?
Does Speech Therapy Really Work For Toddlers? My 2 1/2 year old son has difficulty expressing himself verbally. He pokes, points and grunts to communicate with single words such as mama, dada and a couple of two word sentences such as lets go and whats that. He also has tantrums when he is unable to get his message across. He is about to start his first speech therapy session next week , 2 days a week @ 30 minute each session. Does Speech Therapy really work and if so how long does it take before you see a change ?

My son is 4 yrs and has a speech problem,I am working on getting him back into speech therapy again through the school system where we live but in the mean time I want to work with him myself.I have been using normal ABC and 123 flash cards and such to correct and teach him but I think he is getting bored with the same old same old.So I was wondering if anyone knows of somewhere I can get workbooks, flash cards or anything for speech, especially ones on articulation that are either free or fairly cheap? The ones I have seen are ridiculously priced?? Speech therapy- what extra qualifications do I need to work in Canada? I am almost finished my final year of speech therapy in Scotland and I would like to work or study in Canada. Does any one have any suggestions? I have heard that to work in America I would have to do extra classes in audiology as my course only contains a small module. Is this the same for Canada? Also..Is it possible to take a few classes in speech therapy in Canada even though I will have qualified just to learn how things are done over there? xx
Speech therapy? My 5 yr. old will soon be starting speech therapy at school. What happens in these things? How long does it take to get therapy started? What is needed to qualify for therapy? The school keeps saying "if she qualifies". How long do children usually have to take therapy? What can I do to get help get the therapy started sooner? We were told that most likely it will be after the first of the year before therapy begins. She's been screened. And it's been atleast a month since the paper work was filled out and returned. The teachers said to contact the speach therapist. The speach therapist said the school hasn't gotten the paper work to them yet and that law says she has atleast 60 days to do her part. Teachers said also to push push push the others to get her started. What should I do without pissin' them off? Will medicaid pay for the therapy? We haven't been able to afford regular insurance for a while.

How long have you attended speech therapy? Obviously, if you never attended speech therapy, you don't need to answer. I'm just wondering if there's anyone else out there who spent close to 12 years in speech therapy. To Justmeinthis world, what sort of special needs do these children have? Do you know any of them? Why have I never come across this in my research? Thanks Suzie_lea2007

Research study on Asian/Chinese children who need speech therapy? I'm conducting a research study on Asian/Chinese children in New York City, particularly in the Brooklyn Area, who need speech therapy. Therefore, I would like to know if you have any documents available that can tell me: 1) the total # of populations of Chinese/Asian children in Brooklyn, New York 2) the % of these Chinese children who needed speech therapy 3) how many Chinese Speech-Language providers are available, and is there a shortage Thank you so much for your help.
Where can I get Speech therapy Help? When I was young I was put in speech Therapy from 2nd to 4th grade. Now I am 24 and I still blur my words and a lot of times I have to repeat what I said 2 or 3 times. Where can I get help? I would like to keep it as private as possible. Is there any online programs designed just to help people talk better? I talk okay but, I would like to improve myself privately if possible.
How much money should I ask for for private speech therapy? I have recently been asked to cover maternity leave for a speech pathology position in a private clinic. I currently work in the schools and will be doing this work in the evenings and on Saturdays. I have a meeting with the clinic owner in a week and have no idea what to ask for. Thanks for your help!
What kind of careers are there in speech therapy? I have been considering something in this field. I had speech problems when I was little, and it really made my younger years tough. I want to help kids feel confident and help them at a young age so they don't shy away from life like I did. But I don't know if I want to actually be a speech therapist. I know it's a lot of schooling, but is there like an assistant or other options in this field? I just really want to help kids with this.
Speech therapy, what is the best place to get my 4yr old autistic child, intensive speech therapy? I think we could afford to send him for a year or two. I would hope that the state would pay for it. We thought the state's special school was providing 5 days a week speech. But most of the kids in his class, already talk. So the class only has speech therapy once or twice a week. He is four and used to say a few words now he says none. My sister in law is a special needs teacher and said he needs this everyday in order to talk, and the sooner the better. We live in South New Jersey, but are willing to move to get help.
Should my daughter be put in speech therapy? She's four and still can't pronounce "R"s. It sounds like she says our cat's name is "Noah" instead of "Nora." Frustrating for all, but will she learn on her own or should I go ahead and put her in speech therapy?
Speech Therapy for 2 year old - What to expect ? My 2 year old has been referred for Speech Therapy since he only speaks about 20 words, and only when prompted. He doesn't yet put two words together either. I was wondering if anyone else has been through this, and what the Speech Therapy involves ?
18 month old son and speech therapy question? My son just came home from his 18 month check up and the doctor wants him to see a speech therapist. He does not say any clear words. He says certain things for certain things, but, no real words. He communicates very well in other ways though. He has no red flags for autism-other than no words-so I'm not really concerned about that. Could it be that he really dosen't have to talk. I mean, I know what he wants without him having to tell me. Has anyone else had any experience with speech therapy at this age? What should I expect?
What should I charge for private speech therapy services? I am a speech-language pathologist who works in the schools (7 years experience). A parent has asked me to work with their child over the summer, but their insurance won't cover it. How much should I charge? I know they can't afford a lot, but I don't want to sell myself short either. Any suggestions?
How do I find a therapist or clinical fellow for my private pediatric speech therapy practice in Sarasota, FL? I can offer a great hourly rate with groups of two in local charter schools. Basically the job is a peach. The best part is that Sarasota is beautiful, cultural and near the beach. Right now I'd like someone to work in the schools so that I can take care of the office. But if they wanted to learn the business, the summer would be a perfect time. I'd like to find someone who could eventually take over. How do I get there from here on a small advertising budget in competition with the bigger companies when there is a shortage of Speech Therapists nationwide. I am not big enough to offer benefits other than continuing education. I don't want to waste money with ads in non-productive places.
Will I be able to get a speech therapy job in Florida? My husband and I will be moving to Florida in the near future. (Not sure what part of Florida) I have been a speech therapist in a school district in NY for 30 years. Will I be able to find a similar job in Florida?

Does your toddler receive speech therapy? My 2 year old is in speech therapy (she's only saying about 15 words, no 2 word strings yet.) The therapist doesn't do much, just plays with her and points out things, same thing I do with her! What does your child's speech therapist do and is it working? I'm beginning to think mine is a waste of time and money. Actually, we're not paying for it, the state is. I guess I was talking about a waste of taxpayer money. I'm going to give it more time, I just wanted to see other people's experiences.
how do you tell a friend that their kids need speech therapy? They're lovely kids and all, but i can't understand much of what they say. They're 6 and 5 year old girls. i don't want to offend their parents, but i (among others) think that they should look into getting their girls to a doctor about their speech.
when to start speech therapy for daughter? my daughter is 3.5 years old, she can communicate fine but she doesn't put sentences together and cant say most words. i was wondering what age to start speech therapy. Thanks!
Is it too early to take my 4yr old to speech therapy? My son has trouble putting his words in the right order. He's only 4 but kids his age are talking clearly. The thing is too; he never really started talking until he started daycare. I had to take him out and he's been home for almost a year. Could his withdrawel from other kids have to do with it? Or is this something that would have happened regardless. URRGH where did I go wrong?? I try to work with him at home to make up for him being out of school.
Anyone could furnish me a self-to-do speech therapy? I had a palatoplasmy operation last september of this year and looking forward for my speech therapy. But to have a speech therapist is expensive. Is anyone could furnish me a home study technique of speech therapy? Either a video or a pamphlet for me to do at home? Thanks...
