How to limit internet access to just a few websites? I need to restrict internet access to just a few websites at ~20 locations. The locations are retail stores that need internet access to HR websites and company websites, but I don't want them surfing the internet. The stores have connections back to one point (a sonicwall firewall/router) which is where they gain their internet access. I would like to keep from having to travel to each store to change settings on each computer. Is there anyway we could limit internet access in this way.

How do you feel about internet or cable based classes while attending a traditional university? I am planning out my class schedule for next semester, and I could take two of my 5 classes via the internet. So, I'd only have to go to campus for tests. This would be very convenient, as parking is a hassle, and I work full-time so going down for anything is annoying. The classes are also offered in a traditional lecture format, with night classes that would work with my schedule, but I would have to take the extra time to go, park, etc which would certainly be tempting to skip, whereas the internet I could do whenever. What are your experiences/thoughts with internet based or otherwise remote classes? It seems like it would be a lot more work, cause you'd have to read everything instead of just absorbing lecture material. P.S. I am a fairly good student, I got a 3.8 last semester and stand to do about a 3.5x this semester. So I wouldn't just blow off the classes, internet or otherwise. Thanks for your thoughts
I want to start an internet store for nail polish using yahoo. Any advice? I intend to sell professional salon use nail polishes such as OPI and ESSIE. Yahoo looks to have an easy and low cost system for starters. But as this is my first time, I would appreciate any advice or information from experienced internet store owners/employees. What kind of problems do you encounter the most as an internet store? What are the risks and the perks? Do people really buy from and trust new internet stores? What kind of sales is typical of a small internet store in its first month of opening? I have read many books on the topic but I would love some REAL feedback. Thank you everyone for your help!

How do I connect my laptopt to the internet in a Wifi hotspot? I just bought an HP Omnibook 900 with an Airlink 101 Wireless card. The previous owner said that he used the wireless to connect to the internet without any problems. So here is the question. This is my first time using a laptop with wireless, so If I am in a hotspot offering wifi (such as a bookstore), what do I need to do to connect to the internet. Should it be as simple as clicking on the internet explorer and it will automatically detect the signal and pull up , or do I have to select something on the control panel ? Right now the laptop is running Windows ME, I plan to change it to XP in the future so I can run off wireless from my home home internet provider (comcast). Can someone please tell me what I need to do to connect to the internet. Thanks.

My cable internet goes out during the day but is fine when weather is cool. Do I need to rewire house? When weather is less than app. 80 degrees I have internet service. When it gets hot I lose service. The cable company installed it on the eave of the roof, but laid the 75 ohm cable across the roof. I moved the cable so that it no longer ran across the roof and gained another couple of hours during the day of connection time. One of the contractors they sent said that if we could use the outdoor cabling the company uses we would probably be fine, but the company won't allow them to use it indoors. Since we have no crawl space to run wires. Do they make heat resistant 75 ohm cabling? Or can I increase the signal to the cable modem with an amplifier. The cable company hasn't offered any options except drilling through the walls, which really won't help. I have 3 TV's and my cable modem. TV pictures are fine. Internet service works great when it is up and running. Any ideas? Internet service goes down when sun is shining and above 80 degrees. ISP has been out and says house need to be rewired with new RG6 cable. I rerouted their installation so that 50' of app.350' of outside cable was no longer laying on roof of house (took 50' off roof and ran that through eave of house and now I get about 2 more hours of internet service each day - TV service is always fine). ISP has checked signal coming to house from pole and says it is sufficient. They last guy out said that heat was a factor. I asked about a signal booster and they said they didn't like to do that, but I have a friend who said they installed one for him. I think the run from the pole to the house is too long and since it is in full sun all day much of the signal is lost before it gets to me. I need someone with technical expertise to explain what's happening. Does anyone have any ideas? Do you know of a cable from high heat installations? What kind of booster can I get to install in the house? We can't drill through wall because there are 3 TV's and internet service in different rooms to they have to go throughout the house. Drilling would only bring it into one room.

Internet Explorer-How can I set content advisor on certain accounts but not others? I have 3 user accounts for Internet Explorer. One of them, used by a minor, is a limited account. I have blocked certain pages I don't want him visiting thru Content Advisor, which I have set a password for. This works great for the limited account, but it also affects my full access "computer administrator" account by putting the same restrictions on my account. I know I can override the blocked pages by putting in my password, but I'd rather not if I don't have to. But if I set content advisor for one account, it is enabled for all the accounts, no matter what type it is. How can I set content advisor on one account only?

How will residential internet speeds continue to improve? Our computers are growing faster and more powerful by the day. Their rate of growth never ceases to slow. Judging by this mindset of speeds that keep advancing, one would imagine that the internet providers must also keep up a steady rate of growth. However, it seems if anyone isn't keeping up with current technology, it is the communication providers. Computers have doubled in speeds, yet DSL and cable internet speeds remain the same for residential consumers as they were 5 years ago. So how are they going to bring us the advances in residential connection technology that we are bound to receive?

How can I get internet access on my notebook through my cellphone? I commute by bus to work and access the internet (mostly email/some internet) during the commute. What is the best way to do this? Do you have any recommendations for good phones and service plans to do this? I would like to use bluetooth so I don't need to tether my phone to the laptop. I might use a card but am hoping to not have to spend the extra ~$80/month. Some cell phones have speeds up to 600kbps. If all of the bandwidth can be transferred to the notebook, this wouldn't be bad (at least just for email).

How do I connect my Wii to the Internet using a WiFi adapter and still be able to use wired Internet? I'm trying to connect my Wii to the Internet using the Nintendo WiFi adapter. When I install all of the drivers for the adapter, it changes my Internet settings to where I can no longer get online with my computer (Windows XP). I don't have a router or anything and I'm only using a cable modem. I cannot figure out how to change the settings to where I can connect to the Internet without having to do a system resore (even when I uninstall the drivers it won't change back). Does anyone know how I would be able to switch between the two connections or share them simultaneously? Thanks!

What are the different mobile phone internet connections, and what speeds are they? I know of WAP and GPRS, and I think WAP is 9.6 kbps, but I don't know what speed GPRS is, or what other mobile internet services there are. I'm also interested in what each of these can view - WAP, and I think GPRS, can only be used to view WML pages. Are there any mobile internet services which can access all of the internet, not just specially written pages? If you have any questions about my question, please message me before answering.

What is the philosophical purpose of the internet? This is a very modern philosophical question. Did the internet connect us around the world, or were we already connected and the internet developed to make these connections faster and easier? Is the internet the indicator of social change? The strange thing about this question is that you have to define what does "connect" mean in a more abstract way (meaning more than calling or e-mail). I'd like to know what you think.
How do you get the internet to close correctly on windows vista? Everytime I close out of the window for internet explorer. A box shows up saying something about having two options of having "internet explorer search for a solution and then close" or to just close. How do I share an Internet Connection between two sets of devices on different floors? I have a DSL Modem upstairs. It has four Ethernet ports. My computer is plugged into one of the Ethernet ports with an Ethernet cable. It connects to the Internet through the Modem. But the problem is, my other computer, my Xbox 360, and my PlayStation 2 are downstairs. How do I get the Internet connection from the DSL Modem upstairs to work with my PC, 360, and PS2 downstairs? Do I need to buy a Wireless Router, put it downstairs, and have it wirelessly connect with the modem upstairs? I cannot run 3 Ethernet cables from downstairs to upstairs, mainly because it isn't very practical, but also because my computer room upstairs and my computer/game room downstairs are on opposite sides of the house. So how do I share the connection?
