fibre optics? 1. wat r some environmental, economic, social and political impacts of fibre optics? 2. how has fibre optics revolutionized the speed of communication in the science community? 3. wat r some advantages and disadvantages of quickly accessing information with the help of fibre optics?
Fibre Optics??? How is total internal reflection used in communcation? WHat are four advantages of fibre otpic cables over copper cables.
How do fibre optics transmit light? This is one of the questions for a science assignment and I really can't find an answer. I have found many websites explaining about fibre optics but they are too hard to understand. I would appreciate if anyone can help answer me this question in simplest form. Thank you!
how is do they make the glass wire for fibre optics? How is the actual glass that is used in fibre optic wiring made? The glass has to be near perfect so that it wont crack when bent, plus its incredebly thin. What Type of machines, or tools do they use? Images and sources would be incredibly helpful!
Why is the glass in fibre optics bendy? Why is the glass in fibre optics bendy? It can be looped up!?!? Sorry, I meant how is it bendy. Glass - no matter how thin, should still break shouldn't it - it's still brittle....
Differences between Copper pairs, fibre optics, satellite and microwave? just really looking the advantages and disadvantages of each. I Know that fibre optics are quick and can bend around corners and are also very costly and don't get affected by electro-magnetic interface. I am guessing copper pairs can't bend around corners and are easily hacked but im guessing they are cheaper.
When will i be able to get fibre optics in Northern Ireland? Basically I'm feeling a little abandoned by the whole situation over here. I'm stuck on a pretty weak connection for a high price, when for the equivalent price in sweden people are getting like 50Mb connections. So all i really want to know is does anybody have any inkling as to when we are gonna catch the hell up? Its not right. Thanks in advance for answers
Broadband via fibre optics or telephone lines? Which one is better? Would you say Virgin media broadband via fibre optic noticeably performs better than broadband via telephone lines - like Sky, BT etc? A big thanks to you all for your replies. It's been useful.
What are some uses of fibre optics? Glass fiber is transparent in region of wavelengths λ = 1300 ... 1550 nm How much data in bits per second (bps) can be transferred through such cable WITHOUT ERRORS? Lets assume dismal signal to noise ratio SNR = 1 = 0dB.
Does broadband always use fibre optics? Since I changed from dial up to broadband the phone companies involved did not come rouund and change my phone line to a fibre optic one so what happened? uk people please!
Uses for fibre optics? What are some uses for fibre optics? Please provide a short description with possible drawing help, as i also need to draw a picture explaining it.
Please help with advice on Virgin fibre optics broadband in UK !!? (1) - Do any of you have FIBRE OPTICS Virgin Broadband ---(not copper b/band but fibre optics Virgin broadband) ?! I have BT and it is OK but Virgin claims that with optical fibre, and that they are the only ones in the UK with fibre optics, they can offer up to 20 Mb speed. It is the "up to" I worry about. I wish to ask those with personal experience to give me advice. They make fantastic claims.... and I don't believe them, LOL. They say that ALL other ISP's use copper (true) and that therefore cannot offer more then 4 or 5 Mb speed. Virgin also say that with copper cable the distance from the exchange reduces downloads speeds a lot but that with Virgin fibre optics the distance from the exchange is completely irrelevant. Do any of you have Virgins B/band and if so, can you really download a song in a couple of seconds, and movies in a few minutes ? How close to the claim of 20 Mb speed ? Thanks a lot
Printer with fibre optics connection? I cant get a printer to work it's a HP laserjet 1300n. Basically I got the correct driver went to install and the device wont be detected, It's going through an old laptop and it connects via the network cable. It works well on one of the other computers but I've never installed a printer with a fibre optics connection. Halp! I'm a techi, it's at the college I work at. It's not shared it's directly from the tower to the printer. The other computer used an uncoventional connection that had an adaptor to a fibre optics chord that went straight into the back of the computer
How does fiber optics help us today? I'm doing a project about fiber optics. I need to answer (How does fiber optics help us today?) or even (What has fiber optics done for us?) I've tried to look it up but nothing if you have a clue please respond.
How do you test the speed of fiber optics? I have this science fair project that i have to turn in and I know someone could help me. My topic is "Testing the speed of fiber optics''. Can anyone help me? please?
How do I get Fibre Optic Cable with Virgin Media? According to Virgin media, I cannot receive Fibre Optic Broadband in my area. Now the confusing thing about this is loads of people in my area have Fibre Optic broadband, including my next door neighbour, practically every home in my area can receive Fibre Optic cable, what can I do to get Fibre Optic broadband? PLEASE REPLY QUICKLY!
Is there a way to scan for fibre optic cable that has been laid in the ground? I have looked and work in construction /night watch and so far only able to find pipes or things with metal detector problem is fibre optics are ussualy laid without any metal good and bad since impossible to find atleast so far that I know. I have an idea for using laser to detect by using pulse but looking if there is already a design out there I just not finding thanks. lol i am in planning designs and research but so far u can call any company and hey dont know were their own lines are 90% of the time and the m-scopes we use are like 15k and they dont pick up the cables at all picks up a pipe though and anything else that has slightest bit of metal. thanx for answers and if u have idea's would love to hear like i said currently trying to design since i Cannot find any product out there to find fibre optic cable thats in the ground-work gas pipeline so we dig alot thanx will have to look into the radar i think it may disrupt the cabel signals though and lol trying not to do that or cut them up but just wish they knew were they were laid takes them forever so we just ussually get clearance to dig and if we break we fix like ussual we have a metro tech that u connect to a coper wire that goes down to the wire but when this is not present there is no way to find it beside wait for company or dig slow and dont break it. so far the dopplar radar looks like it might be of use how about a frequency finder since if it has information sending through it wont it have a frequency I have extended the closing on this since yet to get post saying there is a patent out there on anything to find them without connectiong to a lead wire. I thank all of you for your answers and time in this matter. I have much to think about thank you ^v^
i have a question about a fibre optic xmas tree? this might sound like a stupid question, but can you decorate a fibre optic xmas tree thanks for your help, the tree has no decorations on it at all, so in the daytime it looks daft, so will defintley put a few decorations on it. thanks.
How long will it take until all of London is Fibre Optic? I read that BT is doing trials for fibre optic broadband in Muswell Hill in North London (which is about 2 miles from where i live) how long do you think it will take until the trials are finished there and fibre optic is permanently implemented there, in my area, and then eventually most of London?
What is the best way to design a network that contains a fibre optic backbone, 4 subnets and and net access? I currently have a fibre optic backbone connected to the internet through a dmz. THere are two hubs on the backbone, each connected to a router. Each router then connects to 2 switches which will eventually make a total of 4 subnets containing computers and printers. Am i using the right network devices here? Ok, i have a DMZ sitting in between the internal network and the internet to provide security. In the DMZ is a web server, email server and a Remote access server with a firewall sitting infront of it keeping unwanted users out from the internet Could i put the two routers onto the backbone, then connect the switches to these routers to create my subnets.(i thiink thats what you were suggesting) Im going to use private ip addressing using dhcp and dns servers. I dont think i will need NAT as the workstations on the network dont need to connect to the internet directly, although they will be connecting to a WAN that contains another site. thanks for your help
How is virgin fibre optic broadband wired up? i have a socket in my living room that is used for fibre optic, it was installed by NTL and is branded NTL on the casing, what is the usual method of setting this up when i have ordered my desired fibre optic package? any other usefull information is welcome. thanks :)
Can somebody explain the difference between fibre optic installation and cable? For me none. I move to a new built flat fitted with fibre optic. It seems I can receive between 10 and 50 Mb ts with only 1 provider (Seethelight.co.uk?). I am with Virgin. They tell me I am moving to a non cabled area and need a line with BT now and slower broadband when I tranfer. I tough that what they called cable is fibre optic??? I will move to new built area where all homes are fitted with the fastest broadband due to fibre optic but I can get it only with 1 company: Seelight. This company will provide phone +broadband. I don't know this company and can't find information about them. What I don't understand is why Virgin that use the same technology can't tranfer my service (phone+broadband) to this place. They want me to take a line with BT and use their national service for people who don't have fibre optic separately. Precision: my new flat postcode is not in their system.
Where can i get a fat fibre optic Xmas tree? Where in the UK can i get a 6ft fibre optic xmas tree? Ive looked for one but all i can find is the slim ones, I mean fat as in like the artificial trees, but im sure you knew that
Fibre optics help (Multible choice)? Why is there an ideal wavelength for propagation in optic fibres. Select all correct answers a. The fibre has its greatest transparency at the ideal wavelength b. The number of modes is at a minimum only at this wavelength c. Light absorption losses are minimum d. Total internal reflection occurs only at this wavelength e. Rayleigh scattering is greatest at this wavelength
How does fibre optic broadband work? I am having nightmare problems with my wireless router and i am looking to set up and internet connection in my bedroom but the modem is attached in the living room Could i get fibre optic broadband in my bedroom as it doesnt require a phone line is that right
How do I justify the choice of copper, optical fibre and radio links for the transmission? How do I explain how a television signal might be distributed around a block of flats using copper cables, giving a justification for this choice of transmission medium including in my own explanation why UHF to VHF/VHF to UHF conversion is necessary. Giving an explanation for using fibre optic distribution systems in hazardous environments. Explaining why a radio transmission system might be used instead of an infa red transmission system.
